Tsholofelo Majeng is a tough boss. A fierce negotiator. It’s just as well. As a woman running her own metal-supply business, she has her job cut out navigating through a man’s world. Majeng and the women she has built her company around have proven themselves worthy adversaries, with a temperament as sturdy as their product.
Prior to setting out on her own Majeng worked as a personal assistant at the municipality. She noticed a gap in the market when she struggled to get hold of aluminium products while building her house. Realising that this difficulty presented the opportunity to become her own boss and create jobs for others, she founded Maiktronic in 2011. The company spent its first three years operating out of her father’s garage, before upgrading to professional premises and replacing make-shift tools with first-grade equipment.
Having now become an established name in the Kuruman building industry, Majeng continues to run her business on the core belief that gave her the courage to start it: women can lead. Today women make up most of her workforce, from the finance department to the factory. Majeng is a woman of steel who is empowering other women by making a way for them in South Africa’s construction industry.
