Palesa Nooe wanted to leave the military the day she joined. The strict routine and gruelling discipline was overwhelming. Never one to back down, Nooe committed to the challenge. Yet things soon became even worse when her relationship with a fellow soldier turned abusive. After two years, Nooe packed her bags, changed her number, and set out to seek her true calling.

“Through this difficult time, I found myself through singing,” she says. Back home, Nooe began to free herself of the past. “I wrote and sang to process the feelings that were trapped inside of me,” she says. In 2010, Nooe launched her career as a backup singer and later garnered attention as a vocalist for the group Black Motion. But though she found success, Nooe still needed closure from the trauma.

Belting out romance numbers didn’t resonate with her experiences. So the singer, known on stage as Miss P, poured her pain into the track, ‘Love and Agony.’ “I hope that I can inspire other women to use their voices in their own lives,” Nooe says. Within her passion, she’s finding the power to heal.
